Mueck 3

This was, far and away, my absolute favorite sculpture of the Ron Mueck exhibition at the MFAH. It is titled (obviously) “Man in a Boat” and dates from 2002. Mueck is a master of hyperrealism; apart from this, I find especially in this masterpiece a poignant narrative. I envision this man as the protagonist of a Philip Glass opera.

Alas, with my iPhone, it was difficult to photograph with the indoor museum lighting and achieve anything of decent resolution. I hope, in spite of this, that I captured the essence of what I saw, far beyond the confines of the museum gallery space.
